On Monday night, an eclectic crowd was shuffling around Cipriani Wall Street. There was Ivana Trump but also Patti LaBelle and Usher and Star Jones and, interestingly, the Democratic political operative James Carville.

Angel Ball raises money for cancer research. On Monday night, the fashion brand MaxMara hosted a cocktail party at the Four Seasons restaurant for the actress Amy Adams. Ms. Adams doesn’t have a movie coming out this fall, but she did, apparently inspire the company’s latest “A” Bag.

Plenty of Diversions at the Angel Ball Sofia Vergara, Ryan Reynolds with Blake Lively and Kris Jenner Attend the Angel Ball. It was a Monday night, but no one at the Angel Ball was in a hurry. Dinner wouldn’t arrive until 10 p.m. and dancing would stretch until midnight at Cipriani on Wall Street. Angel Ball veterans knew the drill.

When news broke of the death of fashion designer Oscar de la Renta on Monday evening, it brought the occasionally raucous Angel Ball down to earth. Star Jones, took to the podium to ask for a moment of silence for Mr. de la Renta, who had been diagnosed with cancer in 2006. The evening’s medical-research goal now seemed particularly poignant, she said.
